The Start-Up Realtor: Some Advice for New Agents

The Denver real estate market is hotter than ever these days and more and more people are joining the industry as real estate agents. I have been an agent since 2005 but in the real estate industry since 1998 and I continue to learn and grow as the market continues to expand and develop throughout the city and the state. It has been a rewarding job where I have met many amazing individuals who have become life-long friends. Selling houses and buying houses is a job that I find great satisfaction in and why wouldn’t I? I get to help families find their life-long home, I get to help newly married couples find their first home, and I help older couples sell their house they’ve had for 30+ years to find a smaller house to spend their retirement in.  I also get to help those investors, like myself who are building their investment Portfolios.

Many people out there are getting their real estate licenses and getting into this hot market of ours. Getting started in real estate is an exciting prospect with many positive outcomes and endless opportunities and a fantastic potential for income. Now there are all the television shows on HGTV and ‘Million Dollar Listing’ that make new real estate agents have a bit of a skewed view of what real estate really is on an every day basis. Real estate consists of problem solving, troubleshooting, constant learning, trial and error, and so much more.

A lot of being a good real estate agent also comes from your own personality and if it fits in with what the job demands of you. If you are an outgoing, personable, and hard worker who is not afraid to put in time and effort then this is a good job to consider. This is a learn as you go kind of career, you will make mistakes and that’s ok. You can read text books and continue to take classes after you pass your test but the real learning comes from out in the field. This is a hands on job where you need to be able to make good connections and have people you can count on. I would recommend finding a brokerage that meets your needs, one with a training program and a lead generation platform. Finding a broker you can trust to support and guide you will help you become the top agent you want to be.

One thing to be weary of in this field which many new agents deal with is ‘paralysis by analysis’ which basically means trying to gather all the information about everything and being overwhelmed by all of that which leads to you not being able to perform as a top agent. There is so much information to know and you will not know all of it and that is ok! Like I said earlier, this is a hands on job where you learn the most out in the field and you will make mistakes from time to time. Correct those mistakes and work on developing yourself as a agent who knows their stuff.

Being a Realtor is such an amazing opportunity so don’t be too scared if you are thinking of giving it a shot! The Denver market is the perfect place to get your feet wet and the potential for growth is happening everyday. If you have any questions about being an agent or any houses you have been looking at recently, give me a call and let’s grab coffee and chat.

Open House! Join us September 24th from 3-7 for The Brighton Buddhist Temple Redevelopment Open House

As you drive on the highway out of Denver, away from the city towards the towns surrounding, you may find yourself on US-85 heading towards a town called Brighton, Colorado. Just a hop, skip and jump away from Denver, or about a thirty minute drive, this small town has a lot of character as well as a lot of history. First established as a city back in the 1860’s, Brighton first possessed the name Hughes Station because of the Hughes Stagecoach Station that was built as well as the Boulder Valley Railroad. During that time, Hughes Station was a place for the railroad and fur traders to stop as everything was expanding west. In 1881, the City of Brighton was born, named after the birthplace of the founder Daniel Carmichael’s wife. From that point on, Brighton continued to grow and thrive as a city as it continues to do to this day.

When you first exit the highway into Brighton, you may take notice of a church nestled quaintly at the edge of town. Built back in 1938, the Buddhist church was first the idea of a Japanese man named Shunpei Momii. The church took two years to finish and was dedicated on February 18th, 1940 as the Brighton Buddhist Church with 160 members. From there, the church continued to grow and flourish but as the years passed, the membership started to decline as most of the members were in their 70s and 80s and many of their children and the generation below that married into other religions or left the area. Eventually when there was just not enough to keep the church going, it was sold to the Tri-State Buddhist Temple in Denver.

So here we are today with this beautiful Temple and some amazing plans. On August 4th of this year, the Temple was designated “Historic” by the city of Brighton. Because of that, Carolin Corogin with C2 Studio US, LLC ( Developer)  and I are working hard to preserve and reserve this special space. We are a group of women investors who strive to help nurture the city of Denver as well as the surrounding cities with the intention of keeping Colorado beautiful and preserving some of the great historic monuments. Additionally, we will be working with the BJAA Brighton Japanese American Association and other former members of the church to possibly have a ceremony prior to its rehabilitation.  We are sensitive to their culture, what they built and admire the beautiful building they hand-crafted, so we want to make sure they are involved if they would like to be.

Our plans for the church are simple; we want to make this a gathering place for all people, a spot where family and friends can enjoy time together. We are currently looking to put a brewpub in the location so if you know of anyone who is looking for a great location have them come check out the space on September 24th between 3-7 for our open house. We are going to have Dave Tamkin Singer/Songwriter from Boulder playing at the event along with Orange Crunch Food Truck serving the food.  We will also be serving some Colorado craft beers (Currently Seeking out Sponsors) at the event.  Bring your friends and family and see this building before we start a major renovation!

Brigette was great to work with and I highly recommend her for anyone buying property in the Denver or Breckenridge areas. She is very knowledgeable in the Denver area and in real estate in general. She is very responsive and takes quick action for her clients. She saved us thousands of dollars on our recent home purchase.                                                                                                                                   - Mark Valerio 6/2015

Brigette helped me find the perfect loft in downtown Denver and home in the suburbs. She listened to my needs and identified properties that fit them. She is very knowledgeable, personable, reliable and is a great negotiator. She will work around the clock to ensure the deal is sealed. Brigette is so good that I now use her Property Management Services. She is very attentive to the tenant and takes care of issues immediately. She keeps me informed of all issues and always gets my concurrence. I will continue to use Brigette for my real estate needs!

                                                                                           2007 -Debbie Cortez

This is one highly professional lady. Her knowledge and expertise allows Brigette to quickly asses the properties involved and to get the right price.

She has represented me on several transactions and she was more on top of the situation and process than any of the other professionals involved.

I can't imagine ever using a different Realtor.

                                                                           2014- L Sherfel

Brigette found and helped me purchase two amazing lofts and found a tenant for one of the properties. She is extremely professional, efficient and knowledgable about Denver lofts and the city itself. Brigette's persistence, attention to detail and negotiation skills are noteworthy. A great woman and a pleasure to work with.

                                                                     2013  - C. Corogin

Brigette was absolutely excellent. Her response time was amazing, she was prepared, and if you are looking to buy a loft, there is no better person to go to. I saw the place I bought online at 9pm Friday, sent her an email, saw it in person the next morning at 10am, and she had the offer contract already drafted so we could move on it immediately. Great and easy to work with!

                                                                A. Ortiz

I went to Brigette with an idea to buy but was more looking rather than seriously buying. Brigette understood the requirements very well and found a match that made me want to buy rather than just look. Her persistence made this happen. We got a condo with a roof-top terrace that was perfect and a good deal. We were out of state making a long-distance purchase. She made sure the purchase went through without a hitch. Also her recommendations for service support were spot on. I would recommend Brigette for anyone buying in Denver.

                                                            P. Herrmann

Brigette has been our property manager of 2 homes for the last 8-9 years. She has done an exceptional job. We don't have to worry about the properties as she is always on top of everything.

When we sold one of the properties she was wonderful in managing the transition to the sale of the property. I can't say enough about Brigette except thank you for all you do!

                                                           - R. Van Casteren

Brigette and her staff were very knowledgeable. They knew the areas and the market we were looking for. Brigette was VERY patient and helped us find the perfect house. She negotiated for us and we benefited from her skill. She walked us through the process and took notes and reminders to send us regarding maintenance and upkeep on the house. She stayed in touch after the sale to make sure all was going well. My husband and I highly recommend Brigette and her staff if you are looking for someone who has the expertise, knowledge and patience to stay with you until you find the perfect house!

Let's make a little connection

I have always lived by the idea that connections make the world go round. Who you know in your life, who you meet daily, who you connect with at social outings or online, these people can have a big impact on your life. Personally, as a mom, real-estate agent, and business owner, I understand the importance of connecting with those around me.

There are always tons of articles about how to connect with new people professionally to expand your network and I have found the rumors are true, the more social networks you have, the more likely you are to meet potential clients. That being said, I would love to connect with each of you on the social front. Below are links to my networks, feel free to connect with me over them and encourage any of your friends, family, or co-workers who are looking for real estate, want to learn more about business or would like to enjoy the ride with me on a LongJohns longboard to do the same.

A New Place to Brew in Brighton

This has been a busy summer for me and life does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon! Besides being a full-time mom, Realtor, wife and entrepreneur, I am also working hard to help bring something special to the city of Brighton. Many of you may know that I am working on project with in Downtown Brighton which involves the renovation of the old Buddhist church found on the outskirts of Brighton right off of the highway 85 coming in from Denver. The project is currently in the renovation process as we strive to keep the historic feel of the church while adding modern day touches and go-green amenities.

The church is something special and that is what we felt when we first toured the space. It had been left abandoned and unused for ten years and we felt this was a space that needed to be restored and re-loved by the community. This space was once a gathering area for young and old alike and we hope that once the project is finished, it can be a place once again where friends and families gather to enjoy one another’s company and good food and drink.

Currently, we are looking for a Craft brewery user to move into the space but we are also interested in a whiskey distillery/tasting room or cider distillery/tasting room. With the amount of space and the great location, this is sure to be a spot perfect for any distillery. It is not like Colorado is a stranger to good distilleries; we have quite a few in the area and are hoping to add to the already great collection.

If you are curious to check out distilleries around Denver and the surrounding area, check a few of these out: Vapor Distillery in Boulder, Stranahan’s in Denver, First Draft in Rino, and the Colorado Cider Company. What better way to spend an evening with friends or a weekend adventure with a loved one then sitting down to taste a few cold brews? Denver already has a great love for our breweries and distilleries and we hope to continue that love in Brighton that is just a short ride from downtown Denver.

With all that being said, we are looking for someone to set up shop at this beautiful church. If you or anyone you know is looking to have a space to run a brewery or a distillery, give me a call today and I would love to take you around the space and show you our current plans for everything. Let’s bring a new taste to Brighton, one of the cold brew kind!
