Real Haunted Houses In Colorado
Fall is here and that means Halloween is too. Fall in Colorado is glorious- we have beautiful, color changing Aspen lined mountains, Indian summer days, and just as many events as in the summer, including lots of spooky places to visit. On the list is of course, The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, but have you heard of or visited these others?
1. Stanley Hotel- What list of haunted Colorado sites would be complete without the Stanley Hotel? Perhaps best known for inspiring Stephen King’s The Shining, The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park is teaming with ghost stories. According to longtime staff, no less than four spirits regularly roam the hotel. The Concert Hall is a particular hot spot for paranormal activity. Learn more at stanleyhotel.com

2. Hotel Colorado- Converted to a hospital during World War II, which hosted as many as 500 injured military personnel in its chambers and giant ovens in the basement, it supposedly was used as crematoriums for the dead. Its ghostly reputation is also attributed to the spirits of the area’s Ute Indian inhabitants, who frequented the hot springs before their untimely exile. Learn more at hotelcolorado.com.
3. Hotel Jerome- Located in Aspen, Hotel Jerome is every bit of a luxury stay as it is a haunted one. The hotel was built in 1889, but has renovated an updated to the Aspen standard of luxury. Hauntings of The Hotel Jerome are rumored to include the ghost of a boy who drowned in the property’s swimming pool and a maid who became ill and died after falling into an ice-cold pond. 4. Colorado Grande Casino & Hotel- Cripple Creek is riddled with haunted places—Buffalo Billy’s Casino, Hotel St. Nicholas, Mamie R. Mine, and the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, just to name a few—but its Colorado Grande Casino and Hotel takes the cake when it comes to a long, sullied history of supernatural happenings.
